$943 million California healthcare facility opens

Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health in La Jolla to focus on cancer treatment and specialty care.

The new 245-bed Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health in La Jolla will focus on cancer treatment and other specialty care, according to an article on the Health Construction + Operations website.

The 509,500-square-foot, 10-story facility was built to meet the needs of San Diego County an area with 17 percent fewer acute-care beds per 100,000 residents compared to the statewide average.

The facility includes three specialty centers: one for women and infants, a cancer center, and an advanced surgery center.

The Jacobs Medical Center is a triangular building, with a  curvilinear design, and is connected by footbridges to UCSD’s Thornton Hospital on the La Jolla campus.
