Adding an extra floor - without affecting the schedule or budget

Co-location helps Froedtert Hospital project add fifth floor to facility plan mid-project

Mortenson Construction was challenged to add an additional floor to a new building being constructed for Milwaukee's Froedtert Hospital without affecting the timeline or budget, according to an article in the Healthcare Facilities Symposium newsletter.

"Immediately our team knew we had to co-locate on the project site.  Some construction projects call for co-location for portions of the project, but it was obvious that this change in project scope required us to co-locate throughout the entire design and construction process," Jeff Gruhn, healthcare construction executive at Mortenson, said in the article.

The project team also recognized the importance of including trade partners in the estimating process, according to the article.

Through streamlined processes and efficient communication, the team added an entire floor to the original project scope while keeping the project on schedule and within our customer’s original project budget, Gruhn said.
