After a power outage, an Ohio surgeon completed a surgery aided by the lights from the OR staff's phone flashlights, according to an article on the Outpatient Surgery website.
The outage occurred at University Hospitals Westlake Surgery Center, where dermatologic surgeon Margaret Mann, MD, was suturing a wound.
The surgical team used cellphone lights, flashlights and a surgical headlamp to illuminate the area of the incision.
The backup generator did not power the overhead lights in the suite where the procedure was being performed, but it still powered medical devices and a supply refrigerator.
