American College of Healthcare Architects elevates Gary Owens to Council of Fellows

FKP is pleased to announce that Gary Owens, Senior Principal, has been elected to the Council of Fellows by the American College of Healthcare Architects’ (ACHA) Board of Regents. This honor is presented to architects who represent the highest standards of healthcare design. The Board recognized Owens based on his contributions to advance the science and art of healthcare planning through improved standards of architectural education, training and practice.

Owens’ portfolio boasts award-winning projects, including hospitals, cancer treatment centers, intensive care units, ambulatory care facilities, and children’s hospitals. His influence has national and international reach with projects in 12 states and in China. His solutions, beginning with Texas Children’s Hospital West Tower in Houston, TX and continuing through subsequent projects, demonstrate insightful, adaptable patient care spaces that improve patient outcomes, standardize patient treatment spaces that reduce medical errors, and integrate gardens and views for respite and access to nature.

“I am humbled to be included and recognized among this prestigious group of healthcare design professionals,” said Owens. “Healthcare delivery is dynamic and evolving, and as design professionals, it’s incumbent upon us to facilitate these changes in the care setting. My goal is to continue to develop new, innovative practices and design solutions that will aid in the treatment and wellbeing of our clients’ staff, patients and families.”

The Council of Fellows was founded to advance the profession of healthcare architecture. The election to fellowship is the highest honor presented to ACHA members. Fellowship is granted to architects who specialize in healthcare and have shown distinction in fulfilling an area of expertise as determined by the College’s Council of Fellows. ACHA requires its certificate-holders to work toward the improvement of healthcare architecture on behalf of the public, to practice in an ethical manner and to maintain the highest standards in the specialized field of healthcare architecture.
