CMMS software can boost budgeting skills

A computerized maintenance management system will act as a centralized database for everything within a maintenance operation

Healthcare facility managers are faced with many budget-related challenges in today’s changing economic and regulatory environment. One of the biggest obstacles is finding time to sift through all the spreadsheets, reports and data to ensure that they are making intelligent budget decisions, according to a blog on the FacilityCare website.

This is where using computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) software can really pay off, blogger Carly Duncan, Hippo Facilities Management Inc., said.

A CMMS will act as a centralized database for everything within a maintenance operation, the article said. Most CMMSs allow the user to import detailed asset information such as install dates, warranty expiration dates and manufacturer/supplier information, as well as serial and model numbers.

The most popular delivery for a CMMS today is software as a service (SaaS), where the software is hosted by a third-party and users can log on via the web, Duncan said.

"Having access to current asset life cycles, building conditions and reporting tools ensures that facility managers are maximizing their personnel and budget resources, leading to an overall long-term benefit for the organization," she wrote.
