California children's hospital planning family-friendly expansion

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford is adding 521,000 square feet to hospital grounds

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., is adding 521,000 square feet to the hospital grounds as well as 149 patient beds, according to an article on the Healthcare Construction + Operations website.

The expansion will include several features that will make the new building friendlier for kids and their families.

The sculptures in the garden outside the cafeteria will double as climbing structures — including an enormous wolf’s head fashioned from river rocks.

The hospital will also have local and organic food choices in the cafeteria and vending machines. Green housekeeping and a comprehensive recycling program is also planned.
