Well-designed clinical spaces require accommodating new technology, staff interaction and the human touch


In designing clinical spaces, one key to improving patient safety and outcomes while optimizing workflow is interprofessional collaboration, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

Input from the clinical, biomedical, pharmacy, infection control, information technology, environmental services, etc., is vital to achieve optimal healing environments, the article said. 

The most effective approach to managing the explosion of technology is to create a strategic technology master plan with a technology governance committee.

Creating a position on on the project that represents the clinical voice helps ensure that the knowledge and understanding of the health system culture and mission will be be a continuous thread throughout the project.
