Combining design and construction services can maximize value

Construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) delivery can use joint expertise to increase design and construction efficiency

To manage the many details of a design and construction project, healthcare facility managers can use an integrated development process for better spatial efficiency and cost-effectiveness, according to an article on the Medical Construction & Design website.

One way to unify design and construction teams is through a construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) delivery method. CM/GC can maximize team expertise and project resources, the article said.

Though general contractors and architects are hired independently, owners can leverage joint expertise through a collaborative process that can increase design and construction efficiency.

“Having a construction manager on board early affords owners and designers the benefit of our extensive knowledge of building materials, construction costs and technologies, strengthening design decisions and increasing the value of each dollar invested,” said Jason Heustis, a project manager with AP Healthcare.
