Contractors have the tools to ease health care transition, says Mark Howell of Skanska USA, a New York-based construction and development company. According to his article in the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce, with hospitals having to deal with the changes the Affordable Care Act will bring, a growing senior population and the shift to electronic records, at least their building projects can be a bit more painless. 

Building-information modeling software, prefab construction and smartphone apps that monitor dust and noise can save time and minimize disruption for the hospital staff and patients.

Also, the use of lean principles can eliminate or minimize wasted materials, time, labor and more in order to increase overall efficiency, accelerate schedules and drive value for project owners.
