Emerson Network Power's new ASCO microprocessor controller transforms power control for mid-range transfer switches

By Healthcare Facilities Today

Florham Park, N.J. — Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR) and a global leader in maximizing availability, capacity and efficiency of critical infrastructure, debuted the new ASCO® Group G Microprocessor Controller that transforms power control for mid-range transfer switches.

The ASCO Group G Microprocessor Controller is a benchmark in power transfer control intelligence. It satisfies growing demand for 'smarter' power transfer switches that enhance onsite power system reliability and help optimize efficient operation. It is standard in mid-range ASCO Series 300 Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).

"New features that help make the controller smarter include an integrated one-line diagram, configurable relay outputs and modular accessories that help optimize on-site power operation," said John Hayes, director of Electronics at Emerson Network Power's ASCO Power business.

A controller is the 'brain' of any power transfer switch. The smarter the controller, the more precise control, the more ample data and information, and ultimately the more reliable the operation in a variety of environments.

The new ASCO Group G Controller continues the legacy of innovation established by the ASCO Series 300 Microprocessor Controller, which was the first microprocessor controller for mid-range transfer switches. Before that, mid-range transfer switches had only control displays.

The ASCO Group G Controller is self contained, no other components are required for efficient operation. It accommodates open or delayed transition transfer operation in both automatic and non automatic configurations. Multiple-source sensing capabilities encompass voltage, frequency, including under frequency sensing on normal and emergency sources, optional current card, and single and three phase sensing, which does not require an external metering device.

Other features include an intuitive and easy-to-navigate 128*64 integrated graphical LCD display with a soft keypad and six LED indicators that provide broader capabilities and options than 4 x 20 controllers. Two indicators, for example, show switch position and source availability--green for normal and red for emergency operation. Capabilities also include current measurement, ATS status and time delays, and event logging. A multi-lingual user interface for configuration and monitoring allows greater application flexibility.
