Healthcare building booming in Colorado Springs region

About $1 billion in projects are planned during the next several years

Healthcare construction is booming in the Colorado Springs area, with about $1 billion in projects are planned during the next several years, according to an article on The Gazette website.

The projects include three new hospitals, two hospital expansions, two major hospital renovations and several clinics, laboratories and related facilities, but doesn't include long-term care facilities or small medical and dental offices.

The $1 billion value of projects underway or in the planning stages is more than double the value of all hospital and other institutional construction started during the past 15 years, according to reports from the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department.

The boom is attributed in part to the aging of the local population and more retirees moving to the area.
