Healthcare organizations are urged to focus on security in facility design and planning


Secure facilities are key to patient care, according to an article on the Hospitals & Health Networks website

To assist healthcare leaders to create environments that promote safety, the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety developed a set of design guidelines to help build security into new construction and renovation projects.

Incidents of violence and theft demonstrate the need for a security focus in facility design, according to Manuel Hernandez, emergency department physician and health practice leader for CannonDesign

“If you can influence the environment, you can make it a lot safer,” Kevin MTuohey, executive director of research compliance, Boston University and Boston Medical Center, said in the article.
