Laundry staff cuts leads to facility towel shortage

Cuts at Aussie facility leads to residents being dried with hand towels

Staff levels are so low at Maitland, Australia's Benhome Home for the Aged that residents are being dried with hand towels because too many hours have been cut from laundry staff rosters, according to an article on the Maitland Mercury website.

Frustrated workers have contacted the union to vent their concerns about staff levels at the aged care facility, citing the towel issue as one example of how residents are affected.

HSU NSW Sercretary Gerard Hayes said the union is concerned about the failure of Benhome to meet its accreditation standards.

Benhome is now under the control of an independent adviser after being sanctioned for failing to meet 14 of 44 accreditation standards.
