Maximizing BIM use in healthcare facility operations

White paper says not all facilities are putting BIM to use

A recent white paper has said that while an increasing number of healthcare owners are receiving BIM data, not all are using it to the best advantage, according to an article on the Construction Week Online website.

The white paper by Health Care Institute of IFMA, in partnership with BIM for Healthcare Owners outlines four barriers to BIM data best practices.

One issue is data overload. Sifting through the level of detail necessary for drawing creation, clash detection and similar design and construction activities can be overwhelming to the facility management team.

Analysis paralysis is also an issue "Because applications for BIM are still being explored within the healthcare operations arena, it’s unlikely that an organization will be able to put a plan in place that accounts for every benefit," the paper said.
