North Carolina women's center plans $26.8M project to double its size

Novant Health Matthews Medical Center will add 49,000 square feet to its women's services

Novant Health has begun a $26.8 million expansion and renovation project that will more than double the size of its women’s center in Matthews, N.C., according to an article on the Charlotte Business Journal website.

The facility will add about 49,000 square feet when the project is complete.

The project will increase the number of labor, delivery recovery and postpartum rooms by seven for a total of 30. It also will expand the special care nursery and add four beds for use following surgical procedures or to accommodate expectant mothers, the article said.

The expansion and renovation projects are part of a certificate-of-need recently approved by the N.C. Division of Health Service Regulation.
