Healthcare facilities need environmental infection control strategies that can address a range of pathogens, according to an article on the Health Facilities Maintenance website.
Earlier this year, the World Health Organization published a priority pathogens list, including the 12 most dangerous families of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Environmental services departments are urged to refer to include this list in their planning when developing a disinfection program.
However, there is not complete agreement on which pathogens made the list and how they were ranked.
