Student design wins Healthcare Environment Award

Clemson University student honored for design of palliative hospice care facility

By Healthcare Facilities Today

The 2013 Healthcare Environment Awards, co-sponsored by Contract magazine, in association with The Center for Health Design, Healthcare Design 2013, and the Vendome Group. Each year, projects are recognized in acute care, ambulatory care, health and fitness, conceptual and student design categories.

Clemson University student Minglu Lin designed a palliative hospice care facility that inspires a serene and poetic feeling for its residents, according to an article on the Contract magazine website. The building appears as an eye-catching, floating box, which contains family support and administration, and sits atop a transparent, glass-enclosed lobby.

The jury praised Lin’s ability to “raise the level of the conversation” about long-term care. “Having a new generation take a look at how we treat people at that point in their life,” a juror said, “and incorporating nature into it — that is nice.”
