Toolkit helps healthcare facilities reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save water

The guide offers strategies and outreach materials on water and GHG management, two of the key components of climate change mitigation

The Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care launched a new review tool designed to help Canadian healthcare facilities reduce their environmental footprint, according to an article on the Exchange Magazine website.

The free Greenhouse Gas and Water Conservation Guide (GHG Guide) is available to anyone in the Canadian health sector via a web platform. It offers strategies and outreach materials on water and GHG management, two of the key components of climate change mitigation.

Many healthcare organizations across Canada have already started to work toward improving and adapting their operations to become more sustainable, efficient, and resilient. Because of Environment Canada's EcoAction Community Funding Program, the Coalition, the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society (CHES) and Synergie Sante Environnement (SSE), are able to offer guidance to healthcare organizations taking a leadership role in climate change preparation and mitigation, the article said.

Other coalition initiatives that help healthcare facilities reduce GHG emissions include the Health Care Facility Climate Change Resiliency Toolkit , HealthCare Energy Leaders Ontario (HELO), Alternative Energy at Canadian Health Care Facilities: An Overview and the Health Care Energy Green Revolving Fund Initiative .
