REHAU Hydronic Snow and Ice Melting Systems for Healthcare Building Maintenance and Safety

The REHAU hydronic snow and ice melting (SIM) system is designed to advance the safety and sustainability of buildings by efficiently removing snow and ice from vehicle or pedestrian pathways while protecting the surfaces. SIM systems minimize snow removal and accompanying costs, as well as the need to apply salt or other melting agents that can be corrosive to outdoor and indoor surfaces and detrimental to the environment.

In Ontario, Canada where winters are harsh, a REHAU SIM system was installed to enhance the safety of Kitchener-Waterloo Hospitals’ sidewalks and drive-throughs at the main and emergency entrances. By quickly removing dangerous snow and ice, SIM systems help advance healthcare building safety, reducing risk of accidents and liability exposure.

Installed underneath or within an outdoor surface such as concrete, asphalt or paving stones, the SIM system includes durable RAUPEX ® O 2 barrier crosslinked polyethylene (PEXa) pipe and PRO-BALANCE® manifolds that regulate the flow of heated solution (usually water + glycol). Balancing manifolds provide facility engineers with easy access to and control of each zone.
