Three healthcare facilities – Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital in Virginia, and Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County, Wis. – have earned ASHE’s Energy to Care Program 2022 Sustainability Champion Award for demonstrating leadership in becoming more sustainable and using saved resources to support patient care.

The American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association will recognize these facilities – alongside more than 100 other hospitals that have earned an Energy to Care Award for lowering energy use – at its Annual Conference and Technical Exhibition.

The Energy to Care Program began in 2006, and participation has grown to more than 3,600 facilities since 2010. In the entire life of the program, healthcare facilities have seen a combined savings of over $550 million dollars reallocated to patient care.

The program also recognizes past Energy to Care Award winners who have continued to accomplish sustainability goals with the inaugural Sustained Performance Award. ASHE congratulates these facilities for further reducing or maintaining reduced emissions:
