Danfoss, a leading manufacturer of high-efficiency electronic and mechanical components and controls for air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration, industrial, and water systems, was presented with the Innovative Star of Energy Efficiency award during the Alliance to Save Energy’s 23rd annual Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency black-tie gala. The dinner and award ceremony was held in Washington, D.C., on September 17.
The prestigious Innovative Star of Energy Efficiency award recognizes outstanding or unique contributions to energy efficiency with demonstrated, quantifiable, cost-effective energy savings. This year, the award was presented to Danfoss in recognition of the innovative success and potential of Danfoss Turbocor oil-free, magnetic bearing, variable speed compressor technology for the commercial HVAC market. With a compact footprint and oil-free design that reduces maintenance needs and noise, Danfoss Turbocor compressors can improve chiller efficiency by up to 35 percent compared to a similarly sized fixed-speed screw chiller, saving tremendous amounts of energy in high-consumption commercial buildings across the United States and the world.
“Danfoss Turbocor Compressors is very passionate about our history as pioneers of world-class oil-free, magnetic bearing, variable speed technology,” remarked Ricardo Schneider, president, Danfoss Turbocor Compressors. “Of all the energy used annually in the U.S., 40% is related to buildings – primarily for heating and cooling. Building energy consumption can have a substantial impact on total national energy use, meaning we need to look at both new construction and the large inventory of existing buildings and consider what can be done to decrease their energy use. This is where Danfoss solutions can play the greatest role, but it’s through our customers’ applications and solutions that our technology has been able to achieve such great results.”
Other 2015 Star of Energy Efficiency award winners include:
Built Environment: Cinemark Theatres
Industry & Manufacturing: L’Oreal USA
Power Generation & Supply: Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G)
Rising Star of Energy Efficiency – Student: Aurora Winslade, Duke University Fuqua School of Business
Rising Star of Energy Efficiency – Young Professional: Daniel Hill, co-founder and president, Green Impact Campaign (GIC)
“We are honored to receive this award from the Alliance to Save Energy,” said John Galyen, president, Danfoss North America. “As part of our global Engineering Tomorrow commitment, we are not only dedicated to meeting the increasing need for energy efficiency technologies around the world – like we have been for more than 80 years, but also to investing in research and development so that our customers can depend on us to deliver quality, reliable, and innovative solutions to meet future challenges and standards.”
This is the second time Danfoss has been chosen to receive the Innovative Star of Energy Efficiency award, and the second time Danfoss has been recognized this year for its Turbocor compressor technology. In January, the Danfoss Turbocor VTT Series of Compressors received an AHR Expo Innovation Award – an award program recognizing the most creative, effective, and ingenious HVACR products and technologies on the market, and was named the 2015 Product of the Year.
The Alliance to Save Energy’s annual Stars of Energy Efficiency black-tie dinner and awards ceremony was attended by 500 influential leaders, including members of Congress and energy efficiency advocates from industry, government, and academia.
