Immersive theater and virtual reality can ease kids' fear


Alternative technologies — such as immersive theater and virtual reality  — can help to ease kids' pre-surgery anxiety, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

Pediatric anesthesiologists at Lucile Packard developed BERT (Bedside Entertainment and Relaxation Theater) to keep kids relaxed in the minutes before going into surgery.

The mobile system consists of a projector and a large, white plastic screen that can attach to a patient’s bed with clamps. 

Doctors at Cedars-Sinai have found virtual reality is an effective alternative for pain management. The hospital recently had completed clinical research that shows a decrease in pain scores after virtual reality intervention.
