Anesthesiologist Tracking Healthcare Workers Killed By COVID-19

Industry professionals say the lack of good official data is putting lives in danger

While industry professionals say the lack of good official data on Covid deaths among healthcare workers is putting lives in danger, an anesthesiologist has started tracking the data herself, according to an article on the ProPublica website.

On April 14, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published its first count of healthcare workers lost to COVID-19: 27 deaths.

June data (CDC), says more than 60,000 healthcare workers have been infected, and close to 300 have died from COVID-19, according to an article on the NPR website.

But the anesthesiologist, Claire Rezba’s, list included many times that number in April.

“That was upsetting,” Rezba said in the article. “I mean, I’m, like, just one person using Google and I had already counted more than 200 people and they’re saying 27? That’s a big discrepancy.”
