COLUMBUS, Ohio - Anne Arundel Medical Center was recently selected from Language Access Network's (LAN) rapidly growing client base to implement its enhanced Martti(TM) (My Accessible Real-Time Trusted Interpreter) interpretation system for Limited English Proficient (LEP) and Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients. Martti is LAN's state-of the-art mobile device connecting the highest quality, medically trained interpreters with doctors and patients around-the-clock via live video at the touch of its screen.
With Martti's usage in more than 350 medical facilities nationwide, improvements are continually being developed at LAN to remain ahead of the increasing language challenges faced by healthcare providers. This newest platform includes a number of enhancements greatly improving user interface through features such as a larger-scale screen, one-touch access to specific languages, simple touchscreen instructions and technical support, improved high-resolution video, optimized reliability and connectivity and improved privacy settings.
"Our Martti units are part of our medical team," explains Kathy Whittaker, RN, BSN, Manager of Patient Advocacy, Interpretation Services and Spiritual Care at Anne Arundel Medical Center. "They sit at the bedside of our patients and provide an essential tool in communicating with our deaf patients as well as over 200 other languages for patients who are Limited English Proficient.
Communication is essential to excellent diagnostic and high quality medical care and the Martti units provide the instant access that is needed to begin treatment and lower the anxiety of the patient, as well as to ensure their trust in our care."
Language Access Network provides the healthcare industry with real-time video and audio interpretation capabilities in more than 210 languages, including American Sign Language, helping hospitals improve operations, enhance financial performance and build trusted patient encounters through clear communication. "We are thrilled to be partnering with Anne Arundel Medical Center in rolling out this new platform," said LAN Chief Operations Officer, Andrew Panos. "Not only is immediate access to qualified medical interpreters improving patient care, but also helping the hospital realize increased efficiency."
