Armstrong Expands Flexstep Fiberglass Vinyl Sheet Line With New Designs & Colors

Armstrong Floor Products introduces new designs and colors to its popular FlexStep™ Good and Value fiberglass-back vinyl sheet floors to meet the changing needs of property managers, for both new installations and remodels.

The expanded line now offers enhanced wood and stone designs with greater depth, variation and definition in easy-to-maintain floors that can be installed anywhere in the apartment or condominium. The floor’s fiberglass construction has a cushion core for added comfort underfoot. These floors are particularly valued for their terrific resistance to stains and spills, and for ease of installation. FlexStep is an especially good choice for high-traffic areas such as kitchens and playrooms, or wet areas such as bathrooms and laundry rooms since it is moisture resistant.

Armstrong is doubling the number of SKUs to include popular designs and colors offered in traditional felt products. FlexStep Good includes 20 new SKUs and offers a 10-year limited residential warranty.  FlexStep Value includes 10 new SKUs, and has a seven-year limited residential warranty. Both lines use exclusive MasterWorks Technology® that combines advanced digital reproduction techniques with superior craftsmanship to create amazingly authentic-looking designs.

“We believe much of the interest in these particular sheet floors are, of course, the great visuals – always the #1 selling point – but more so because they provide installation choices over traditional felt-back vinyl floors . Installers have the option not to glue it down, or to use Armstrong S-289 releasable adhesive so that repairs can be done more easily, or so that a new floor can be installed faster,” says Allen Cubell, vice president, Residential Resilient Product Management.

FlexStep flooring can be installed by three different methods, giving installers a variety of alternatives, from ‘easy in, easy out’ loose lay to traditional full-spread installation to releasable adhesives.

The three types of installation options include modified loose where the vinyl is cut in place and held down in heavy traffic areas with double-sided tape, glue down with releasable adhesive and glue-down with permanent adhesive.

FlexStep, like other encapsulated glass rotovinyl (printed) flooring, is designed to be installed using Glass-Tac tape or Armstrong’s S-288 permanent bond adhesive to create a strong, permanent bond to the floor. The adhesive is easy to trowel and floors can be installed wet or dry to touch.  The S-289 releasable adhesive makes it easy to replace the floor once installed, and also allows for easy repairs. Armstrong’s  S-761 seam adhesive is a quick and easy seaming method.  Plus, it offers excellent seam integrity and creates a monolithic appearance that helps block the penetration of dirt.

“Thanks to its great looks and installation ease, FlexStep is a growing category, not just in property management, but also at roll-stock retailers,” adds Cubell.

All Armstrong resilient floors are third-party FloorScore™ certified for better indoor air quality, and all are compliant with California Section 01350 recognized as the toughest standard in the country.
