Armstrong® Commercial Flooring announced that its industry-leading recycling program has been expanded to include Armstrong® Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT). The expansion builds upon the success of its recycling program for Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT) which has recovered more than six million pounds of post-consumer VCT since 2012. Armstrong Luxury Vinyl Tile and qualifying competitors’ LVT products will be recycled into new flooring product at the company’s Stillwater, OK and Lancaster, PA manufacturing facilities.
“Our products are designed with recyclability in mind,” said Amy Costello, Sustainability Manager for Armstrong Commercial Flooring. “Our closed-loop recycling program provides an end-of-life alternative, helping to conserve and protect natural resources while reducing the environmental footprint of our products.”
The recycling program now has a simplified 4-step process and no job size limits which makes it easier for North American customers to return flooring products and install new products during renovations. This program enables building owners, facility managers and contractors to save money on waste disposal, conserve natural resources and obtain Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design (LEED) credits for diverting waste materials from the job site.
“The Armstrong Floor Recycling Program reduces waste and conserves natural resources by taking back a product that is typically sent to landfill,” said Wes Sullens, Green Building Policy and Advocacy Manager at StopWaste. “By streamlining the recovery process and moving towards a closed-loop system, Armstrong is taking an industry leadership position that is crucial to changing standard practices,” added Sullens.
“We continue to build on our recycling efforts,” said Amy Costello, sustainability manager in AFP Commercial Flooring. “By taking responsibility for our products at the end of life, we are able to conserve valuable natural resources and manufacture products with lower environmental footprints. It is a win-win for everyone.”
