Aspirus Wausau Hospital Among Nation’s Top 100 Heart Programs

Aspirus Wausau Hospital (AWH) has been named to the 2018 Becker’s Healthcare “100 hospitals and health systems with great heart programs.”

This is the 11th year AWH has landed on the list, and it was the only hospital in north central Wisconsin to make the 2018 list.

The hospitals named on the list are national leaders in cardiovascular health care. Many institutions pioneered groundbreaking procedures and remain on the forefront of heart care today. All have received recognition for top-notch health care.

“Our heart and vascular team continues to exceed even the highest of expectations, and always with the patient’s care at the forefront.” said Darrell Lentz, President of Aspirus Wausau Hospital. "This national recognition for the 11th year is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our entire team."

To develop this list, the Becker's Healthcare editorial team examined several reputable rankings and award agencies, including U.S. News & World Report rankings for cardiology and heart surgery; IBM Watson Health's cardiovascular hospital rankings, CareChex rankings for cardiac care, Blue Distinction Centers for cardiac care, and Society of Thoracic Surgeons star rankings.

“We have a talented and dedicated team of medical professionals who are invested in caring for the heart health of our patients in north central Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula,” said German Larrain, MD, medical director of Aspirus Heart & Vascular. “Our patients have the peace of mind knowing that we set the standard of care in our service areas.”

Aspirus Heart & Vascular provides state-of-the-art cardiovascular services for the region. Aspirus is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for heart care and consistently ranked by national quality benchmarking organizations as a leader in clinical quality and patient safety.
