Atlanta hospital opens mobile ER to handle flu overflow

Grady Memorial Hospital ER normally sees 400 patients a day but the number has grown to above 500

Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta has set up a mobile ER to handle flu overflow, according to an article on the Atlanta NPR website.

The hospital sees 400 ER patients a day. But the number has risen to above 500 during this flu season.

The tractor trailer-sized structure looks like a huge tent assembled outside a major entertainment or sports event, according to the article.

The unit has been used as a temporary hospital during disasters, including seven weeks in coastal Mississippi during the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort in 2005. It has also been used for major events and for hospitals renovations.
