Bangkok hospital focuses on attracting medical tourism business

Bumrungrad International Hospital's new women and children's campus will include concierge service on the first floor and retail and dining on the second

Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok attracts more than 400,000 patients from 190 countries who are seeking advanced healthcare in a resort-hotel setting, according to an article on the Healthcare Design magazine's website.

The private hospital's new Petchburi Road Women and Children’s Campus, now in development, will continue the focus on attracting medical tourism business.

The 27-story, 950,000-square-foot campus will include a full range of clinical and diagnostic services with a 200-bed inpatient hospital, outpatient clinic, four-level underground parking garage for 450 cars, and high-end patient/family amenities that include a rooftop sky garden, concierge service, valet, gourmet dining, and retail, according to the article.

The first three floors will house the main hospitality amenities, from concierge service on the first floor  to retail and dining on the second, and registration on the third—all connected by an escalator, the article said. Private patient rooms will have full kitchens, sofas and lounge area, spa-like bathrooms, Wi-Fi connection, and multimedia centers.

The design team worked with a feng shui master to tap into Thai cultural traditions that would also appeal to an international patient base. The north-facing front door, interior and exterior sightlines, and even placement of bathroom entrances off-view from patient beds follow traditional Asian design influences, according to the article.
