By Healthcare Facilities Today

A colony with 40 bats was removed from an unoccupied hospital room in an Orangeburg South Carolina hospital, according to an article on the WISTV website.

The Regional Medical Center spokesperson said the hospital is working with bat removal experts to get all bats out of the hospital.

According to the article, there have been no reports of harm to patients, visitors or staff.

The hospital said it was likely the bats entered during a recent roofing project, the article said. The bats were found in an unoccupied room on one wing of the third floor.

A netting barrier was placed around the hospital to keep bats from getting back inside, the article said.

The hospital remained open despite the sightings and a S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control investigation.
