Build the right visualization system into the OR

Cameras and monitors must be compatible

When building, expanding or updating an operating room, find the system that works best for the facility and staff, according to an article on the Outpatient Surgery website.

A 4K monitor provides better resolution, but if cameras and monitors aren't compatible, the benefits will be negligible.

"The technology will be fine once all laparoscopic cameras are 4K-compatible," said Yuman Fong, chief of surgery at City of Hope (Calif.) Medical Center. "But most facilities have 1080 cameras or less, so 4K monitors don't help them."

"We considered 4K, but it would have required investing in specialty cameras and lenses," said Lori Dostalek, OR manager at Aurora Health Care.
