Bungee cord and dog gates used as restraints in healthcare facility

Owners of Indiana facility face neglect of dependent and criminal recklessness charges

A mother and son face neglect of dependent and criminal recklessness charges after bungee cord and dog gates were used as restraints in an Indiana healthcare facility, according to an article on the Fox 59 website.

The pair runs Kearns Comfort Care in Greenfield. According to court documents, patients in their care had been locked in their rooms and their beds were surrounded by dog gates and held in place by bungee cords to keep patients in their beds.

Adult Protective Services also found a patient under a bed.

Kearns Comfort Care is not a licensed home healthcare provider. Investigators said the businesses isn't necessarily required to have a license, and providers are not required to be medically trained.
