California Funds Security for Reproductive Health Facilities

Grants will fund physical and digital security enhancements at healthcare facilities and practitioner offices that might be the target of violence and vandalism.

California recently announced the availability of $19 million in new grants designed for physical and data security at facilities providing abortion-related care and reproductive health services. Known as the Physical and Digital Infrastructure Security (PDIS) grant program, these grants are administered by the California governor’s Office of Emergency Services in coordination with the state’s Department of Health Care Access and Information. The grants will fund physical and digital security enhancements at healthcare facilities and practitioner offices that might be the target of violence and vandalism.

“California is doubling down on its effort to protect Californians’ reproductive rights, not only at home but in the healthcare setting. This investment to improve the safety of facilities and practitioners who also champion these rights is paramount,” said Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Healthcare facilities and practitioners may apply for this funding. The two pots of money include:

  • Physical and Digital Infrastructure Security for Health Care Facilities has about $14 million available for the program. Applicants may request up to $500,000 per facility.
  • Physical and Digital Infrastructure Security for Health Care Practitioners has about $5 million available in state general funds for the program. Applicants may request up to $150,000 per practitioner site.
