California declares state of emergency after hepatitis A outbreak

The disease has most often struck the homeless or drug users, but has spread to workers at a healthcare facility


California declared a state of emergency after a deadly hepatitis A outbreak has spread faster than the state’s ability to supply the vaccine , according to an article on the Western Journalism website.

So far, 581 people in California have been sickened with the disease.

The declaration allows the state to increase its supply of hepatitis A vaccines in order to control the current outbreak.

The disease has most often struck the homeless or drug users, but has spread to workers at a healthcare facility.
