Chicago health facilities get bold new home

Building designed with rhombus-shaped perforations sprayed like bubbles across its shiny, forked facade

Architect Juan Moreno has designed a building with rhombus-shaped perforations sprayed like bubbles across its shiny, forked facade to house two Chicago healthcare facilities, according to an article on the Crains Chicago Business website.

Designed for a corner site in Brighton Park, the building will house three agencies with mostly Latino clientele: Esperanza Health Centers, Sinai Health System and Mujeres Latinas en Accion.

The design is "not bashful, it's intentionally provocative," Moreno said in the article. "I want people to know that people in these communities matter, and I want the communities to know they deserve architecture of the highest caliber."

When patients and their families see the "bubbles" flowing across the building's angled surface, "they're going to see movement and a feeling of dynamism, hope," Dan Fulwiler, CEO of Esperanza Health Centers said in the article. "You should see those things at a health facility."
