Children’s Health Children’s Medical Center Dallas began active shooter drills for its emergency department staff in August of 2016. 

In a survey of staffers who underwent the training, 92 percent said they felt more prepared, according to an article on the Fierce Healthcare website.

Conducting drills has become increasingly important in light of growing concerns about mass casualty incidents.

There are also concerns that hospitals could become targets, such as with reports that suspects recently arrested at a New Mexico compound planned to attack Atlanta's Grady Hospital.
