Cincinnati architects are playing major roles in a project to develop a massive hospital and senior living center in Weihai, China, a Yellow Sea port city of about 2.8 million, according to an article in the Cincinnati Business Courier.

SFA Architects and Warner Architecture Studio are collaborating as the design architects for the 1,800-bed Boai Rehabilitation Hospital and Assisted Living project, which is to begin construction in mid-2014 and conclude by late 2015 or early 2016.

The project, being developed by the Weihai-based Tianrun Group, is expected to provide a new model of care for China’s growing population of aging adults, the article said. The hospital will encompass about 1.7 million square feet and include 1,007 beds. The 800-bed senior housing buildings will include 677 units and encompass nearly 1.2 million square feet, including more than 250,000 square feet of underground parking. The cost hasn’t been announced.

“The facilities are designed to coordinate the levels of care through the full range of initial treatment, rehabilitation and eventual move into an assisted living facility,” Alan Warner said in the article.
