Cleaning staff at Glasgow hospital with pigeon issues ‘not briefed’ on infection control

The death of a pediatric patient has been linked to pigeon droppings in the facility

Cleaning staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow had not been briefed on infection control measures despite the recent death of a child patient from pigeon-linked infection, according to an article on The Scotsman website.

A review has been ordered into Scotland’s biggest hospital after the death of a child patient in December where the infection linked to pigeon droppings was found to be factor in the death.

The birds had gotten into a plant room on the top floor of the building.

A range of issues including sewage, infection, drainage and ventilation problems have emerged since the hospital opened.
