Clorox offers new influenza and norovirus prevention toolkit

By Healthcare Facilities Today

Flu season is here, accompanied by seasonal spikes in norovirus which means that healthcare facilities around the country are bracing to prevent outbreaks of severe illness caused by hospital-onset infections.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from seasonal flu-related complications each year, while norovirus causes an average of 71,000 hospitalizations, 400,000 emergency department visits and 1.9 million outpatient visits.

New research published in the American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC), shows that hospital-onset influenza is associated with increased lengths length of stay, incidence of intensive care unit admission and death compared with community-onset influenza, which makes infection prevention and control a priority in healthcare settings.

To help healthcare professionals prevent and contain the spread of illness, Clorox Healthcare created the Influenza & Norovirus Prevention Tool Kit which includes:
• Advice and key learnings from infection control experts
• Infection prevention tips
• Environmental cleaning protocols and checklists
