Connection between Cubs and healthcare facilities comes out of left field

The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System's Research and Educational Hospitals were built on the site of the old ballpark


The Health and Hospital Networks website used it's Throwback Thursday feature to reminisce about the fact that The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System's Research and Educational Hospitals were built on the site of the old ballpark — where the Cubs won two World Series in 1907 and 1908 — and haven't won another since.

The West Side Grounds housed the Cubs until 1915, next to a mental health facility.

The Neuropsychiatric Institute was located just past the left field fence. 

Legend has it that patients would scream weird things out of open windows during the game and the phrase 'that came out of left field' was coined, according to the article.
