Consolidations, collaborations planned for Hudson Valley hospitals

Fewer medical centers, more urgent-care locations, and the absorption of small practices predicted


As hospital mergers and acquisitions gather steam in the Hudson Valley, people can expect to see fewer medical centers, more urgent-care locations, and small practices dying out or being absorbed into larger ones, according to an article on the Record Online website.

Consolidations and collaborations have been picking up at a fast pace in the New York region, and more are planned in the coming months.

Consolidations are part of a nationwide trend of mergers and acquisitions among hospitals as smaller groups struggle to compete in a changing health care landscape, the article said.

Small hospitals often lack the resources for the upgrades that would keep them competitive.
