Conversion of retail sites to healthcare has a price

Convenient locations may increase patient buy-in to wellness

Clinics are cropping up in former retail locations across the country. There are plenty of sites available, but converting them into healthcare facilities and medical office buildings has comes with specific challenges, according to an article on Healthcare Design's web site.

While having clinics convenient to where people live and work can improve patients participation in their own health, big box retailers are not known for their windows, and adding emergency power services, medical gas, and backup power is expensive, says Jennifer Kovacs Silvis, Healthcare Design's managing editor.
