Creating a "safety culture" in an organization can be a challenge, according to a blog on the Becker's Infection Control and Clinical Quality website.
"If you are not actively trying to create a strong safety culture in your organization, it probably doesn't exist," wrote Howard Bergendahl.
According to Bergendahl, there are four characteristics in a strong safety culture.
1. Everyone is empowered and expected to stop and question when things just don't seem right.
2. Everyone is constantly aware of the risks inherent in what this organization does.
3. Learning and continuous improvement are true values.
4. Teamwork is a requirement.
