A main source of hospital-acquired infections is improper hand hygiene prior to touching various surfaces in a patient room and cubicle curtains rank as the sixth most commonly touched surface, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

Despite cubicle curtains' infection issues, how to clean and how often to change them is often not understood.

Issue can include: 

• Not developing a cubicle curtain cleaning or changing policy

• Not documenting cubicle curtain changes

• Not having room to store a sufficient inventory
