Cybersecurity Apt To Remain Challenging in 2021

2021 is likely to see ongoing threats and vulnerabilities affecting the healthcare industry


As if a pandemic isn’t enough. Healthcare facilities face daunting times as the number of COVID-19 cases returns to levels not seen since the spring and threatens to go even higher. Amid all of this turmoil, facility managers also must remain vigilant when it comes to protecting facility technology such as building automation systems from cyberattack.

For as difficult as 2020 has been, 2021 is likely to see more of the same with a variety of threats and vulnerabilities affecting the healthcare industry. In a report released on Wednesday, security firm Kaspersky offers predictions that will impact healthcare providers next year, according to TechRepublic.

Among the predictions Is that the focus on digital security in hospitals offers hope 2021 will be the year cybersecurity and healthcare join forces. Experience has shown that painful lessons such as the Wannacry epidemic in 2017 and the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 are the very thing that incentivizes organizations to pay more attention to infrastructure security.

Kaspersky also offers suggestions for healthcare organizations, including that the basic security rules for all companies must apply to medical organizations as well. At a minimum, antivirus solutions should be installed on every machine.
