Dallas is experiencing a hospital-building boom to meet the demands of a growing population and to replace aging facilities. There are examples of this in nearly every corner of the region, according to an article on the Dallas-Fort Worth Healthcare Daily website.
Joining the new Methodist Hospital are Parkland Health & Hospital System’s new $1.3 billion building and UT Southwestern’s William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. The Hospital Corp. of America is building on the northern edge of Tarrant County. Forest Park Medical Center has a presence in Frisco, North Dallas, Southlake and Fort Worth.
Some of the hospital growth is meant to replace older facilities. Parkland’s new facility will replace its existing, 730-bed campus, which opened in 1954. And UTSW’s Clements Hospital is replacing St. Paul University Hospital.
“It was not easily adapted to what is needed to provide the best care today,” Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, the university’s president, said in the aticle. “When we looked at the cost of investing further to bring it up, we realized it was a completely unreasonable investment.”
