Danfoss hot water conversion valves for 1-pipe steam systems help prepare buildings for heating season

In preparation for the upcoming heating season, the Danfoss single entry conversion valves enable the simple conversion of steam radiators to hot water, allowing building owners to maintain the unique character of older buildings and homes and requiring less installation labor and piping difficulties.

Steam-heated buildings have been found to use more water than buildings not heated with steam (almost twice the national average on a per person basis), serving a likely explanation of why converting buildings from steam heat to hot water heat has been found to save more energy than expected.

With tens of thousands of steam systems still in operation throughout the United States, the possibilities are endless for conversion to forced hot water. The reasons are myriad.  Many of today’s hot water boilers are far more efficient and allow for effective zoning of each and every radiator. Converting older buildings from steam to hot water heat has proven to produce savings of 13 to 39% and results in a more evenly controlled heating system.

The Danfoss single entry conversion valves add cost efficiency and improved temperature control in a steam-based heating system and are also easy to maintain with an existing classic cast iron radiator. As a special valve assembly that allows the installer to pipe both the supply and return from only one side of the radiator, the design features a built-in thermostatic valve offering control of radiators or fin tube baseboards through a single ½” connection. This single entry valve is available for conventional 2 pipe hot water circuits or with a built-in bypass for series piped radiators.

The compact design of the valve allows for easy, minimized installation without having to damage walls and floors by drilling unnecessary holes, etc. The valve can be combined with any Danfoss RA2000 thermostatic operator or TWA electronic actuator, providing individual temperature regulation and controlled comfort for the room. It also provides an excellent alternative method of piping for fin tube or baseboard additions.
