Design can support a healthcare organization's growth plan by curbing operational costs and improving patient and resident outcomes, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

To create environments that can address current challenges, long-held assumptions of what is important in health care facilities must be challenged, the article said.

For instance, designing facilities as the base of health information can avoid creating silos between education, prevention and treatment. 

Also, design can modernize facilities efficiently while saving money. The advantages of co-developing operational plans, functional programming and physical facility design cannot be underestimated, the article said.
