St. Joseph's Healthcare's psychiatric hospital in Hamilton Mountain, Ontario, was built to be safe, but last year three inpatients committed suicide within the hospital, according to an article on The Hamilton Spectator website.
Less than four years ago, the facility was built with all the latest best practices in suicide prevention in mind.
The hospital released a report the week about those suicides, but the report does not include any information about how the three patients died.
Ligature risks are the greatest concern, according to hospital officials, but architects, designers and administrators took great length to remove potential dangers.
