Detroit-area hospital plans $160M expansion

Botsford Hospital will create private rooms to replace double and triple rooms that date back to the 1960s

Botsford Hospital in Framington, Mich., is planning a $160 million expansion by the end of summer 2015, according to an article on the Detroit News website.

The hospital is benefitting from the recent merger of Botsford Health Care, Beaumont Health System and Oakwood Healthcare. The move formed the largest healthcare system in Southeast Michigan and will include eight hospitals.

If approved by the state, Botsford will create private rooms to replace double and triple rooms that date back to the 1960s. No new beds will be added.

The plan includes an expansion of the hospital's emergency and trauma center, construction of a new critical care unit and creation of a dedicated observation unit. The hospital plans to add nine operating rooms.
